Travelling to Grand Cayman for foot surgery
Not everyone I see lives in Cayman. I welcome patients from the British Virgin Islands and across the Caribbean, as well as people travelling from Miami, the rest of the US and Canada, including those with homes on the island who split their year between here and elsewhere.
Specialist foot surgery can be hard to find on smaller islands, and for many people Grand Cayman is a shorter, simpler trip than going to the US or the UK. You get the same keyhole bunion and toe surgery I do on Harley Street, at NovoClinic in George Town.
How it works if you’re coming from abroad
- Start with a video consultation. We talk through your symptoms and look at any X-rays or scans you already have, so you know whether surgery is likely before you book any travel.
- Plan your trip around one of my visits. I’m in Grand Cayman for a full week several times a year. We’ll fit your face-to-face assessment, any scans and your operation into the same visit where possible.
- Stay on the island for the first part of your recovery. I’ll advise how long you should stay before flying home, based on your operation and your journey. NovoClinic’s nurses check your dressings while you’re here.
- Follow-up from home. Once you’re back, I review your progress by video call, and I can see you in person on a later visit if needed.
Insurance and payment
Some international and regional insurers will cover treatment in the Cayman Islands, and many patients choose to self-pay. NovoClinic can help you check what your policy covers and give you a clear quote before you travel.
Flying after foot surgery
Flying soon after any operation slightly raises the risk of a blood clot, and your foot will swell more on a flight. We’ll plan your stay, seating and any blood clot prevention so your journey home is as safe and comfortable as possible.
